Historical Committee

Welcome to the Historical Committee section of the Penlake website!

Penlake and its residents have a rich history that we want to keep alive for future generations. The original Historical Committee was formed in the 1990s, and it worked arduously to create and publish the book Penlake in 1993. After its success, the Committee published 'Penlake II', in 1997. These two books are wonderful legacies for all lake residents, many of them multi-generational. Once these two books were published, the original Historical Committee disbanded.

In 2013, a new Historical Committee was formed, carrying on the torch of preserving the history of our beloved lake. This committee, recognizing the changing times, embraced the digital age and committed to archiving as much material of interest on our website and in our PLA records. This ensures the continuity of our community's narrative, making it accessible to a wider audience and safeguarding it for future generations.

We are pleased to share the material we have gathered to date. Our historical section has interesting articles and books, current and from the past, video interviews with people who have shared their memories and stories, and another section of photos accompanied by narratives exhibited in PowerPoint format, categorized by subject matter.

We see this project evolving as we receive more material from our lake residents. Your contributions, whether stories, memories, photos, or videos, are invaluable in recording our history for generations. We encourage you to share your part of the Penlake story. Please contact Janet Matthews at janrickmatthews@gmail.com  if you have something to contribute. All originals will be returned to you.

Please help us keep our history alive for generations to come!

Eva-Marie Moffat and Heather Moffat co-chair the current Historical Committee, which includes Barb and Alex Armstrong, Tony Houghton, Janet Matthews, Lang Moffat, and Carol Sissons.
